Buying guide

Which multi-tool?

  • DeWalt-compatible: brushless, with quick-release blade changes, no spanner needed.
  • Milwaukee-compatible: brushless, with six speed settings.

Typical jobs

  • Trimming door frames and skirting for new flooring.
  • Plunge cuts in plasterboard and timber.
  • Removing grout, old sealant and adhesive.
  • Detail sanding in corners and on window frames.

Blades and pads

Use wood blades for timber and plasterboard, bi-metal blades where there may be nails, and carbide blades for grout. Sanding pads take hook-and-loop sheets.

Batteries

Multi-tools are light on batteries, so a 2-battery kit covers most jobs.
