Buying guide

Which saw?

  • DeWalt-compatible: compact 5-inch (125 mm) saw with adjustable cut depth, for timber, boards and trim.
  • Makita-compatible: compact saw up to 10,800 RPM with adjustable depth and 0–45° bevel, for timber, sheet material and trim.
  • Milwaukee-compatible: three speed settings up to 12,000 RPM with adjustable depth, for wood, metal and tile with the right blade.

Typical jobs

  • Cutting studwork, joists and decking boards.
  • Ripping and cross-cutting plywood, OSB and MDF sheets.
  • Trimming doors, skirting and worktops.

Blades

Use a fine-tooth blade for clean cuts in sheet material and trim, and a coarser blade for fast cuts in timber. Change blades with the battery removed.

Batteries

A spare battery keeps you cutting while the other charges. The 3 and 4-battery kits suit full days on site.

Safety

Clamp the work, keep the lower guard free to move, set the depth just below the material and wear eye and hearing protection.
